Dispelling some of the Myths.
In listening to some of the customer enquiries it seems that the record should be set straight.
Question 1 I read somewhere that strut regassing is poor value and one would be lucky to get three months use out of them is that true?
Ans. The failure rate in the first 12 months is very low around 1 percent and in fact most will last several years after regassing. If we considered they were doubtful we would recommend new replacement.
Question 2 If the struts have lost pressure then surely the seals must be worn so what would the point be in regassing them again?
Ans. Just as a tyre will lose pressure over a period of time so will a gas strut. The seal pack used in a gas strut is designed to expand under the gas pressure Therefore the nitrogen gas and a small quantity of oil (used to lubricate the seal and dampen the stroke) is trapped until the pressure drops again.
Question 3 My tailgate or bonnet is staying up most of the time but sometimes it comes down slowly what causes this?
Ans. On warmer days the gas expands enough to just keep it up, On colder days or cool mornings the gas contracts enough to decrease the gas pressure, The same problem can occur when the car is parked pointing up hill. (It's time for a regas) |
