What are gas struts used for?

Gas Struts have many uses and can be set at various pressures to provide a controlled lifting and lowering force.

The following are some of the most common applications: Automotive (Hatch, Tailgate & Bonnet), Agricultural, Office chairs, Camper vans (there are up to 20 struts in the new caravans), Marine, Food processing, Pool gates, Machinery guards, Tool box lids and many Industrial applications.

Are gas struts safe and environmentally friendly?

Yes gas struts are safe when used in accordance with instructions! Puncturing high-pressure vessels of any kind is a hazardous practice and must not be done with any type or make of strut. Care must be taken in the disposal of unwanted or used gas struts which are either fully or partially gassed as they can cause damage if punctured, incinerated or crushed.

Please Note: they should never be mixed with normal rubbish or placed in the incinerator, they can be left with us and we will dispose of them in the correct manner.

Gas struts are filled with industrial grade dry nitrogen which comprises up to 78% of the earth's atmosphere, odourless and an inert gas. Nitrogen will not harm the environment, it is harmless if inhaled and will not ignite and burn.

Struts contain a small quantity of oil (similar to hydraulic fluid) which has a dual purpose: it lubricates the seals and provides damping of the final part of the stroke.
